Welcome to my blog, where I'll be sharing my exciting journey of studying to become a certified Pilates teacher. Join me as I dive into the world of Pilates, discovering the transformative power it holds, and unraveling the secrets to becoming an inspiring instructor.
1. Igniting the Spark: My Pilates Love Story
As you know I am always looking at the newest trend and keeping an eye on all my classes to see what classes would benefit with change.
Upon doing this, I realised it was me that would benefit from this, aswell as my classes and clients.
I am always rushing around and am aware of how my body feels, now it is getting older.
I decided that I needed to do something for me and it had to be something kind, as I am not very kind to myself.
So I listened to people talking and I watched the newest classes arriving in the area and Pilates popped up again and again. I have been teaching for over 23 years and Pilates has never been on my radar, its way too slow for me, or so I thought!
I teach classes at Breeze in Beckenham, and what I didn't realise, is that I get free classes. So I checked out the timetable and saw that the only class that I could do every week, was Pilates on a Thursday night (must have been fate).
So off I trot, like a school girl on her first day, nervously approaching the gym, wondering if I am wearing the right gear, flexible enough and obviously am I cool enough!
Well I did not need to worry , everyone was super friendly, mixed abilities and even better, I knew the instructor, she is my neighbour!
The class showed me just how inflexible I am and how difficult it is to do a simple task, like stand on one foot and balance (which I could not do )!
I had to go back and I had to master the moves, the inner competitive Mickey came out and I was not going to be beaten!
So my love was ignited and I immediately booked on for the next week.
2.Why do a course?
Studying a new form of exercise is an incredible opportunity for personal growth and self-improvement. It opens doors to new challenges, pushing beyond our comfort zones and expanding our physical and mental capabilities. By diving into the depths of a new exercise, we not only enhance our physical strength, flexibility, and endurance but also nurture discipline, focus, and determination. The process of studying a new form of exercise allows us to discover our own potential, building confidence and resilience along the way. As we embark on this journey, we embark on a path of bettering ourselves, embracing growth, and unlocking a version of ourselves we never thought possible.I wanted to push myself beyond everything I had learnt previously and share my new knowledge with you all!
3.My journey so far:
So i signed up with an amazing training provider and immediately regretted it, I panicked, the course looked so overwhelming and I felt stupid.
My imposter syndrome was galloping out and so decided to use my 14 day cooling off period and cancel.
However after a good talking to in my mirror, after all I was the only one arguing with me and I started to work through the enormous amount of videos and paper work.
I have to attend 3 workshops, submit a 12 week plan, a Portfolio and teach a class under exam conditions. I have a year to do this but no, I want this completed by December, so that I can launch in January.
Aswell as all this, I am running my own business, which is growing! I certainly do not make things easier for myself.
Over the past 3 months, I have sacrificed going out, time with friends and sleep to work on this course, I really want to pass!
I have attended 1 workshop and about to attend another, finished and submitted both my 12 week plan and portfolio.
Its not been easy, I have had to learn to slow down and learn the breathing techniques, but it has made me correct old habits and improve my current teaching and help clients with their postures and injuries.
4. How can Pilates help you!
Pilates is a powerful exercise method that helps people of all ages and fitness levels to improve their physical and mental well-being. Pilates focuses on building core strength, improving posture, increasing flexibility, and enhancing body awareness, which can lead to improved balance, reduced back pain, and heightened athletic performance. Additionally, Pilates promotes relaxation, stress relief, and mindfulness, making it an effective tool for managing anxiety and improving overall mental health. Overall, Pilates is an incredible practice that helps people to achieve a strong, balanced body and a calm, focused mind.
You may not think it is for you but give it a go and then let me know!
5.What's next?
My aim and desire is to add 2 Pilates sessions into our timetable from January 2024.
Book out a space in your diary for the first class Monday 8th January 2024 at 6.45pm.
The other class is dedicated to my prenatal women on a Wednesday night at 7.30pm, so if you know anyone who is pregnant, please send them my way!
Hopefully I will see some of you there.
6.Update
As I am writing this blog, I have found out that I have passed my 12 week plan, I am so relieved, 2 more exams to do, I'll keep you posted!
